Medium-Voltage Installation Services

Overview

VarStec’s Installation Services provide the field labor, technical supervision, and project execution required to install their reactive compensation solutions at the jobsite safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements and equipment design objectives. Depending on the needs of the project, VarStec can provide technical installation support to the customer’s field forces or assume full responsibility for installation activities, including site preparation, equipment offloading, placement, assembly, interconnection, and turnover to pre-commissioning and commissioning. VarStec can serve as the installation contractor or as a technical installation specialist working alongside others on site. Proper installation is essential to long-term reliability, safe operation, and an efficient path to energization.

Because these systems involve specialized equipment layouts, grounding, control and power interconnections, protection interfaces, switching components, and medium-voltage cable systems, they require product-specific technical expertise during field installation. VarStec provides that expertise together with practical field execution capability, helping ensure that their equipment is installed correctly, prepared for operation, and aligned with both design intent and actual site conditions.

Detailed Scope of Services

VarStec’s Installation Services include some or all of the following. Reports, checklists, and related documentation are provided throughout each stage of the process to document progress, confirm readiness, and support proper turnover.

Prior to Site Work

Prior to mobilization, VarStec coordinates with the owner, EPC, electrical contractor, and site personnel to confirm equipment delivery status, installation sequencing, site access, and readiness for field activities. VarStec reviews applicable drawings, equipment layouts, bills of material, and installation requirements, develop installation plans, and coordinate labor, tools, lifting equipment, and construction resources required to execute the work efficiently and safely.

Site Preparation

Where included in VarStec’s scope, installation services may begin with preparation of the site for equipment installation. This may include layout verification, excavation and trenching, concrete pad work, embedded conduit or grounding provisions, and other related site construction activities required to receive the equipment and support proper installation. These activities help ensure that the site is ready for equipment placement and electrical interconnection.

Equipment Offloading, Placement, and Assembly

VarStec may provide or coordinate equipment offloading, unloading supervision, rigging, placement, anchoring, and field assembly of the equipment at site. This may include assembly of shipping splits, installation of internal bus and components as required, placement of associated high-pass resistors and other auxiliary components, and verification that the installed equipment is properly positioned and secured in accordance with project requirements and approved drawings.

Electrical Installation

VarStec may perform or support the installation of medium-voltage power cables, control wiring, grounding systems, conduit interconnections, cable terminations, and related electrical work associated with the equipment. Installation activities may also include connection of sensing devices, surge arresters, control power, communications, and other associated components. This work helps ensure that all major mechanical and electrical interfaces are completed correctly and are ready for the next stage of the project.

Installation Verification

Following installation, VarStec verifies that the equipment has been assembled correctly and that all major mechanical and electrical interfaces are complete and ready for pre-commissioning and commissioning. This may include inspection of enclosure alignment, bolted connections, internal clearances, grounding, wiring, labeling, cable terminations, and overall installation completeness. These activities help identify deficiencies early and support a smoother transition into energization activities.

Turnover to Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning

Upon completion of installation, VarStec provides documentation and field turnover support to confirm that the system is ready for pre-commissioning and commissioning. This continuity between installation and start-up helps reduce delays, improve field coordination, and support a more efficient path to energization.
